Literary Heritage Walk in NadiadIf you visit Nadiad, you must surely visit the great 'Literary Heritage Walk'. It is India's first literary heritage walk, which holds 244 Gujarati authors.
The city of Nadiad is situated in central part of Gujarat, and is called as Gujarat’s 'Saksharbhoomi'. Many local people (today’s generation) do not know about this fact. Even, the literates or authors have absolutely no idea of it.
Biography of the Authors of NadiadOne of the famous authors called 'Govardanram Tripathi', had written the novel 'Saraswati Chandra' over which, several films were made in Hindi and Gujarati, that were belonged to the city of Nadiad. Such films have brought a great name and fame to the novel and the novelist. This novel has been considered as the standard novel; while, the Mansukhram Suryaram Tripathi is popular for the Jeevan Vratant (his autobiography).
Nadiad city comprises of 244 authors who have given their valuable contribution to the Gujarati Literature. Amongst which, 40 authors lived in the backyard of the 'Govardhanram House'.
The authors and their profiles are properly documented by ‘Hasit Mehta’ (a Trustee – 'Dahi Laxmibai library'). Hasit has a great passion in writing about the history of 'Gujarati Literature' that has made him more ambitious about the massive project. While, this documentation is related to men of letters who belong to the Nadiad. Due to the initiating work of Hasit Mehta, a literary Heritage Walk has been developed by the Nadiad Municipality. This has been done seeking the help from the Heritage cell of the 'Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation'.
Residence of Authors in NadiadInitially, it was very difficult to find out the authors residences in such a large area. However, during the first phase, only 44 authors and their residences were discovered; while, their names of these authors were written right in front of the houses surrounding the 'Samdi Chakla'.
The heritage library is in Samdi Chakla and it was founded by Govardhanram Tripathi in the memory of his wife .
Unique Project to Inspire Authors of NadiadThe unique project has been started by Ashish Dave (an officer of Nadiad Municipality), who is in charge of the unique project. As per the project, the heritage walk starts fortnight every week. While, the authors begin from the 'Diwali pole' that is near to the Railway Station and stops at 'Samdi Chakla'. In the route of 1.25 Kms, it introduces 26 authors, six poles as well as the three houses to the public. Wherein, these three houses represents the traditional art of painting the house walls.
Amongst the 23 houses, there are certain houses which belong to the 'Govardhanram Tripathi', as well as the 'Indulal Yagnik' (an architect of Mahagujarat Movement for the formation of Gujarat), and 'Bakul Tripathi', (a satirist, popular for his columns known as the 'Kakko ane Barakhadi').
There is a person behind the design (heritage walk movement in India) of such a huge project, who is known by name 'Debashish Nayak'. He is not only the architect of Literary Heritage Walk in Nadiad, but also some other heritage walks all around India.
